The cacophony of my mobile alarm was too much to bear. Far more annoying than the rooster seen crowing in the morning in most cartoons. Most days I would jump up and get ready for work. But, its winter break now so all I did was shut the alarm off and pull the blanket nicely to feel more cozy. Of course nature had other ideas. The sun which was not seen for nearly five days now was shining brightly and its rays kissing my cheeks gently through the glass pane. “How could this day be any different from yesterday” I thought in the back of my head. “Why its the first day of the new year” said the “other guy” in my mind. These two guys have been within every single one of us since the day we were born. We call them the “good” and the “evil” consciousness. I’m not too sure about their gender though.
So, its the 1st of January 2013. Unlucky 13 many say but how can it be? How can it be unlucky for me. This could well be my make or break year in many fronts. Not least the marriage thingy. Most people would recall the entire year on 31st December but I do it on 1st January. Why leave out the 31st? Let the entire year pass by including the fireworks on New Years Eve because a stray bullet from guys firing in open air to celebrate the new year, could end up hitting you and change your entire life. Such is the enjoyment we seek on “special” occasions, we disregard safety measures. There are sixteen crore people in this country and few lives lost would not make any difference to anyone. So it seems. The events of the past year only leads to such horrific thinking. Not long ago the incident with a certain Bishwajeet brings back the memories of terrible, mind shattering scenes of clashes between Awami League and Jaamat e Islami, where people were beaten to death by wooden oars, reminds us of the ghastly horrendous political disparity in this country. Election year and political scenario is heating up. Its going to become more barbaric than Roman times. How do I know? Well barbarism has been emanated throughout history in the form of one man’s/factions/races arrogance, authoritarian, supercilious haughtiness attitude towards human life. Our two political parties are the same. So don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel because one party talks about caretaker government and the other about every other issue than what the common citizen needs. Of this, is the issue of war crimes. Crimes committed during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. Good thing to book them (the war criminals mostly from Jaamat e Islami) even after 40 years of independence for their henous crimes against the poor and helpless Bangalees back then. It might be symbolic now, since there are fifty thousand of the so called “rajakars” but hey atleast someone from the political scenery has the guts to put them on trial. Mind you, this is the promise made to the youth of today through which the incumbent government of Sheikh Hasina came to power. Lot of debate going on about the trials but justice should be done in this so called unlucky 13. Justice should also be done to thousands of people who put their lives at risk for this motherland but now living a miserable life. They should be given all facilities of freedom fighter. Justice should be done to all those rape victims, the acid thrown victims, victims of garments factory blaze and also not to forget natural disasters. Lets see where this new year takes citizens of this great nation on the political front.
On a more personal note, I would be a hypocrite if I said nothing much has happened. Although I like healthy hypocrisy, but that is only when I am dealing with the females of my species. Ha ha ha. The year began with me completing the education phase for the moment. There was so much passion and zest for targeting PhD abroad in the beginning of the year which died a slow death by the year end. Why I wonder. Maybe it was events that unfolded in the later half. But lets keep those stories for another day. Now I must rest. The body is not getting any younger, constantly getting bombarded by oxonium ions which are killing my cells. But I promise to write here often. more often than previously I promised and that could be my new years resolution. Far from the boring phrase of “I will definitely lose weight this year”.
Happy New 2013.
Goodnight!
